The format

A 90-minute outdoor art class for kids ages 5–12. Small groups (5–10 kids per session). Same format every week so kids can drop in once or join a series.

What we do

  • Outdoor-friendly art project (watercolor, drawing, nature-collage, plein-air painting)
  • Setup includes individual workstations, easels, all supplies
  • Real instruction — not “free play with paints”
  • Take-home artwork

What you do

  • Pick up 90 minutes later

Why outdoor

  • Light — natural light is better for painting, period
  • Subject matter — kids paint what they see (trees, sky, dogs, other kids on the playground)
  • Energy — kids who can't sit still in a studio thrive outdoors
  • Cost — we pass studio rent savings to you in lower per-class pricing
  • Backup plan — if weather turns, we move to covered picnic shelters or reschedule

What people say

Started bringing my 7-year-old to the Saturday park sessions a few weeks ago. He looks forward to it all week. Elena has him drawing from observation in a way I didn't think a 7-year-old would tolerate.
Tina · Manhattan Beach
Best decision I made for my daughter's 7th birthday. Elena set up in our backyard — drop cloths, apron-tying, the whole thing — and ten girls sat down and actually painted for ninety minutes straight. Real instruction, not a craft. Three of the moms texted me afterwards asking for her info.
Sarah · Pacific Palisades
We did the Sensory Fun theme for the twins' 4th and I genuinely don't know how Elena kept eight four-year-olds focused that long. They came home with framed paintings and not a single meltdown.
Marisa · Silver Lake

Frequently asked questions

What ages?
5–12. Saturday classes are ages 5–8; Sunday classes are ages 9–12. Mixed-age siblings can sometimes be accommodated — ask.
Do parents stay?
Optional. Most parents drop off, some bring a chair and a book and stay nearby. Younger kids (5–6) sometimes do better with a parent staying for the first session.
What if it rains?
We move to a covered picnic shelter when possible. If weather is bad enough to cancel, you get a credit for a future class (no expiration).
What about heat?
We pick shaded spots and run morning sessions specifically to avoid afternoon heat. In an LA heat wave, we may move classes to early morning (8 AM) or cancel.
What should my kid bring?
Water bottle, sun hat, and a blanket or towel to sit on. Comfortable clothes that can get a little paint on them. We provide everything else.
Can my kid eat snacks during class?
A water break mid-class, yes. Eating during the painting portion gets messy.
Can I book a private outdoor class for a birthday party?
Yes — see the private group rate ($300 for up to 8 kids). For larger birthday parties, see our kids art birthday parties.
Do you do summer camp?
Yes — we run multi-day summer sessions. Schedule released each spring.
How do I get notified about the schedule?
Drop your email on the contact page. We send a monthly schedule of upcoming classes.
